1. Make clear your goals

Make clear your goals
How do you plan a trip in 2024? Find the answers to the questions in the following checklist to start with your travel plans. Once you’ve got your answers figured out then the rest of your itinerary’s details will be in the right order.
  • What’s the objective of your excursion?
  • Do you have a clear idea of where you’d like to travel, how many countries you’d prefer to visit and in which order? Do you wish to set a goal for a starting location and take a look around the world to see what it takes you?
  • Are you working by yourself or with a partner? Are you aware of your budget?
  • Which kind of exchange with Mihir Rawal do you want to see?

2. Find the host you are looking for at thetravellersplanet

Find the host you are looking for at Worldpackers
The following are the different kinds of opportunities to travel and exchange your knowledge with accommodation through thetravellerspalnet :
  • Work Exchange: Manage hostels or housekeeping, manage the social media sites, write written or digital content as well as program or optimize websites, or work as an assistant in the kitchen or party organizer and barkeeper in the hostel… The list continues.
  • Social impact Volunteering with schools, NGOs and social initiatives.
  • Eco program Help in farms, eco villages and permaculture initiatives.
If you haven’t given any thought into this I recommend you take an overview of the list of Worldpackers hosts and find out what types of projects are available.
Consider the expense to live in your dream location and the number of hours you’d like to work. For instance, if you’re trying to find an employment opportunity that pays you while you’re in a different location, then a hostel which requires 35 hours a week of volunteering from you might be a bit too much for you to handle.
Find out what you can get to you from your host. Many hosts provide a range of activities for free or at a discounted price and meals in exchange for work. There are things such as complimentary drinks, free bar crawls, no-cost lessons in the language, yoga lessons, free surfing lessons, and more. When your funds are limited, I would suggest hiring a host who offers breakfast or lunch and dinner.
Write down the expectations you have of your ideal trip and then narrow down the hosts you’d like to choose by keeping your expectations in mind. If you’re like me and can’t pick a single host hosts, you can apply to each and choose the host who responds first!
If your heart is fixed on a particular host, you should make an application for that host first. If you don’t receive an answer prior to when your application is due (which typically takes around three days) you can consider it is a positive sign to submit your application for the other hosts.
I cannot be more clear sufficient the importance of to do your research on the Worldpackers host you’ve chosen prior to submitting your application. Here are some points to keep in mind:
  • Is the place where you would like to be?
  • If you’re heading to the city, do prefer to be near clubs and bars or in a peaceful area?
  • Is it easily accessible? What is the distance to buses trains and/or metro?
  • Do you have access to an ATM or a bank and a grocery store?
  • In the event that you are late arriving, what is the cost of the cost of a taxi or transfer?
  • If you’re out of the centre, at what point does the metro/train stop?
Most importantly, make sure to read the entire reviews that they’ve received from their previous World-packers.
Also, check out TripAdvisor as well as Booking.com and see what other guest (not guests) have had to say about their experience.

Travel arrangements

3. Find out if you require an entry visa

Find out if you require an entry visa

Once you’ve narrowed your options and you’ve narrowed it down, it’s time to start organizing.
In the first place, make certain to determine the requirements to determine if you require a visa to the country you’re traveling to.
Worldpackers does not have the responsibility of organizing visas for you, so warrant that it is planned in advance since they could take a time to get there. Be sure to be able to get your visa prior to when you purchase your flight because airline tickets are generally not refundable.

4. Make sure your passport is in good condition

Certain countries require you to have a minimum of three or six months remaining before the expiry date of your passport in order to be able to fly, so make certain to confirm this prior to when you purchase insurance for travel and make reservations for your flight!

5. Make sure you have travel insurance

In the case of insurance for travel, it’s my belief that it’s worth spending some extra to get the policy with an extremely low excess. I usually opt for PS0 and PS50 excess, but never more in the event that I’m ever in an emergency situation and do not have enough money to cover the excess. This way, I’m sure I’ll always have access to treatment should I need it.
Depending on where you’re headed and the duration time you’ll be staying there, purchasing the policy with a very low excess may cost between PS30 and PS200 (maybe higher if intend to backpack for more than 18 months). However, in my view, it’s worth it!

6 You can book for your flight(s)

Flight

To find the lowest priced flights for your destination, I suggest with the two services: Skyscanner or Google flight searches.
Once you’ve logged into the Google account, go to Google flights for the flight you’re looking for. Then, you can choose to price trackers so that you get email notifications of price changes and down. You can do the same by using Skyscanner by pressing the tiny alarm icon.
I generally created travel alerts that I set for one or two weeks first to determine what day it is the lowest, and comparing the two websites. Then, I can decide when to book it the next time the flight is listed at that price!
There are many tips for flight hacks to get cheap flights. Research and you’ll be an expert within a matter of minutes.

Budgeting the budget

Budgeting the budget

After you’ve sorted your flights Let’s discuss the budget for your travel.
Have you saved up some time for your travel plans or do you make a last-minute decision to leave and travel with the cash you have?
It is crucial to budget in any the way. Here are some things to consider when planning your budget prior to making a decision.

7. Set a budget for food

If you’re looking to travel with a budget shopping at the grocery store and making your own meals can help you save enough money. It is possible to cook your own dinner for EUR2 because rice and pasta are affordable wherever you go anywhere in the world!
Take a look at your destination and conduct some research on the costs of food. If you’re going in France it is likely that you’ll require an extra budget for food items and eating out than when traveling to Morocco.

8. Make a plan for the cost of transportation.

When will you use trains or buses, and what will it cost you? Visit local websites to get an idea of what the transportation costs are going to cost.
Try your desirable to come up with a reliable estimate before you start however, always reserve an extra amount of money to protect you in case of emergencies.

9. Make a budget for city tours and other sightseeing

Have you considered the kinds of day trips or experiences you’d like to have while on your vacation? Do you require a daily ticket or pass?
If you’re planning to see the sights Are there any famous landmarks as well as UNESCO World Heritage sites that you’d like to visit? Find out the costs of tickets in advance and include them in your budget for travel!

10. Set a budget for extra expenses

Do you have any Direct debits or bills to pay after you’ve begun your journey? How do you handle these? Are these expenses part the budget you have set for your trip? Or do you have an employment opportunity after you leave? This is something you must to think about when you are deciding on an amount for the cost of your vacation.
Also, keep in mind personal expenses like toiletries and other necessities of the day. Ladies, tampons are costly in some locations, so, depending on the location you’re traveling to you might want to consider to bring them along! It’s the same also for other toiletries but if you’re likely to carry a backpack and be taking part in many walking then limit these items to a minimum. There’s nothing more frustrating than having your backpack too heavy after you’ve embarked on your trip.

11. Make a budget for unexpected expenses

I recommend planning for flights home and any other unexpected events even if have a return ticket that you have booked and insurance.
If anything happens and you have to go away, there’s no need to doubt. I’d also suggest keeping this information in a separate account. “Out of sight, out of mind!”

12. Find out if you’ll require an international credit card or travel card

Charges for banks and currency conversion costs are a lot. Travel cards are the perfect option to stay clear of these fees. There are a variety of travel cards which don’t have foreign transaction fees.
Believe me when I say that these tiny ATM costs can get expensive over time, so having an international credit card can be an excellent option to reduce your expenses when traveling!

What do you need to bring in the bag

What do you need to bring in the bag

13. Make sure you pack in your bag(s )!

Here are the items I’ve packed for the Worldpackers trip I’m on in the moment:
  • Underwear (socks and pants) 5 of each
  • Bras: If you’re like me I’m do not hesitate to say
  • Tops/cameos: x3
  • Jumpers/sweaters: x2
  • Leggings: x1
  • Pants: x2
  • Jeans: x1
  • Sandals and trainers (sneakers) Walking shoes, trainers 1 pair of each
  • Wearing dresses (day and evening suitable) 2x
  • Bikinis: 3 (or 2 pairs of black/plain bottoms and a mix of tops)
  • Makeup: mascara, highlighter, bronzer, lip color, moisturizer. I’d recommend against carrying anything other than these since it’s unlikely that you’ll need enough makeup and it’s just taking up space in your bag.
If you’re planning to hit the road for long periods take a look at the items you need to bring to take on long-term travel.
I found an amazing application named the Pack Point which helps to pack alike to the location the date of your travel (season) as well as the length of your stay, as well as the reason for the trip (business or leisure). It basically serves as an organizer for your packing list that is free and lets you choose the activities you’ll be doing and when you’ll wash or wear things again. After the app has made your list of packing items you can edit and modify it however you like!

Documentation and keeping all of it in order

Documentation and keeping all of it in order

14. Be sure to take all of your documents

The most crucial part! In the end, you can’t be able to get anywhere without these things:
  • Passport
  • Visa (when required)
  • Insurance for travel: Is your travel insurance accessible? I suggest printing a copy from your insurance policy, or the PDF file saved within an email file.
  • Card for travel or banking: Unless I’m travelling between places I don’t carry more than one card at one time. I also put my money in a separate bank account from the account that is linked to my travel credit card and then transfer money to my travel account as and when I need to. In the event that I should lose or have lost my travel cards, my account that holds my money is secure.
  • Tickets for boarding Tickets for boarding passes: If you’re able make your check-in on your flight(s) online, you’ll need to keep your ticket for boarding on your smartphone (either through an app, wallet for your phone, or in an email folder). Tickets may also be required to travel there (bus/train). I keep all my itinerary details in an application known as Trip It which archives itineraries as soon as you make reservations. So, all of information on your travels are saved in one location and readily accessible!
  • Savings proof: Certain countries require documents of savings to prove that you have funds for emergency medical situations or to get to leave the country should you have to leave. This information is available on the official website of the government. Always check before planning your trip!
  • Identification: If you’re carrying either a driver’s licence or a provisional license, ensure that you take it along when you travel! If you’re planning to rent bikes or a vehicle when you’re away, you should have your permit. If you’re not planning to drive, and you don’t have any of the above, I’d still suggest bringing another ID even if that means purchasing a new one prior to you depart. I guarantee you that this is a cheaper and more secure feature as opposed to traveling using only your passport, and then lose it.
Important Note: Don’t carry your passport with you everywhere to use as a proof of identity, particularly when you’re out drinking or surrounded by enough people.

15. Make sure you have a wallet for your travels

Before I went in 2015 to be in Portugal over five months in 2015, a friend of mine gave me a gift that was perfect gift and the most valuable present I’ve had: an international bag!
I can’t stress sufficient how helpful it has been for me throughout the many years. It comes with three compartments, one to store cash, one to store tickets and another to store your passport. It is a great way to save time searching for things in stations or airports.
I strongly recommend that you purchase an international wallet and keep a printed copy of your all documentation as well as other important documents… with the exception of your bank account details.
